Bonekraft

For the gift shop that’s on EVERYONE’S shopping list at Christmas, it has to be the Bonekraft Shop in Frontierland, circa Summer 1957. While we’re in Frontierland today, might as well stop at the Casa de Fritos, March 12, 1964.

More Frontierland at my main website.

The Bonecraft thumbnail links to the photo of the two boys from yesterday. But it's a great picture! I wasn't aware of this store.

Great shot of Casa de Fritos too...

The rare photo gems never stop!!! I never knew of the “Bonekraft” store either, I bet they had some neat stuff in there! Actually, I am very curious about what was “hand carved” on the bone (and bones from what?) A femur with Mickey’s face etched in it? Obviously not PC these days… THANKS DAVE!

Hi, BoneKraft sold bone handled knives, among other things, if my memory is correct.

Also, to the left of BoneKraft, is, I'm pretty sure, the old Shooting Gallery!

Oh wait, that's not the shooting gallery. I think that's the entrance to a Mexican market (formerly leased by Chris Portillo).

According to the information I have, Bonekraft was located in the Davy Crockett Arcade from opening day until about 1966. I think I got that information from the Walt Disney Archives many years back...

I have the same information Progressland. It is listed in the Disneyland Dictionary published by WED in 1959 at that location. The lessee was Bonekraft of California.

The owner of the shop was my uncle, Richard Swenson and my aunt Ellen. He carved many things from the shin bone of cattle, after he processed the bone in his own secret way. He later was located at the Old Dessert Tower, near Jacumba, CA on old highway 80, now interstate 8.
