The Back of the Sign

From October 5, 1957 comes this Fantasyland slide. Good color, nice sharp detail, but I gotta’ wonder why the photographer took a photo of the back of this sign with a bluebird on it as the focal point? And, does anyone know what this sign is of? While we’re in 1957, here’s another one from the same batch with a nice overhead shot of the Carrousel (that’s 2 R’s at Disneyland) and the Castle.

They really spell "Carrousel" with two "R's"?? Never noticed that before!

I'll bet that it's the Skyway to Tommorowland sign, judging from the elevation the picture was taken from. Probably about a third of the way up the stairs you had to climb to get to the station.

I really enjoy your site...and THANKS for viewing (and leaving a comment) on mine. I'll try to update more often (new post today in fact).

Take care and please keep up the great work!

Major - I don't know why, but yes, DLand uses 2 "r's" for their Carrousel. Anyone care to comment on why? And Walter - you are probably right on the Skyway guess; that makes sense; thanks for the nice feedback!

The preferred spelling of Carrousel has two 'r's. But Carousel is fine, too. As Gary Owens used to say on that great comedy 'Laugh-In', "Look that up in your Funk and Wagnall".

The sign is definately the one that says "skyway to tomorrowland entrance"....you can see the front of it in your set of pics, 3rd from last that says "skyway station 1960's". Great site!

I DID look up Carrousel...the Oxford American Dictionary says that the spelling with two r's is a variant, but it says nothing about it being preferred.

I was at Disneyland today and the sign post is still there, although there is no sign hanging from it anymore. It is located at the bottom of the steps that lead up to the former Fantasyland skyway station.
